SUCCESS STORY FOR
Paws on Main

When Paws on Main opened its doors in June 2023, it did so with a clear understanding of its community and a simple belief that in a place like Dyersburg, pets are family. Built to meet a growing local demand, the business was designed as a trusted, all-in-one pet care destination where owners could depend on consistent, high-quality grooming, boarding, and doggy daycare services delivered under one roof. From the start, Jennifer and Jonathan Anderson set out to create a business rooted in care, reliability, and strong community connections.
As the concept took shape, Jennifer turned to the Tennessee Small Business Development Center for support in developing a business plan, addressing business management challenges, and clearly defining employee roles and responsibilities. Working with lead consultant Van Wylie, the TSBDC assisted with the development of a comprehensive business plan, the creation of a strategic framework for employees, and guidance on hiring practices to support sustainable operations from day one.
The results were immediate and tangible. Paws on Main successfully opened in June 2023 and created seven new jobs, establishing itself as both a growing small business and a new employer in the local economy.
The TSBDC plans to continue supporting Paws on Main through assistance with marketing, business development, and sales growth as the business looks to the future. Looking ahead, the owners are focused on delivering excellent service to their clients, increasing sales, and creating additional jobs. Reflecting on their experience, the owners shared, “The SBDC provided counseling and guidance during our transition from agriculture to small business. Their assistance we received was critical in our journey.”
