Broadway & Sons Trucking, Inc. represents nearly three decades of family legacy, civic pride, and dependable service rooted in Jackson, Tennessee. Founded in 1995 by Royce Dale and Deborah “Kay” Broadway, the company has grown into a preferred trucking provider serving communities from the Mississippi River to the Tennessee River, specializing in hauling materials such as sand, gravel, rock, topsoil, fill dirt, compost, baseball sand, and mulch for both commercial and residential customers. From its original location in Jackson, where it continues to operate today, Broadway & Sons Trucking has built a reputation for reliability and consistency that has made it a trusted partner across West Tennessee.

Following the passing of Mr. Royce Broadway, Ms. Kay assumed the role of President and continued leading the business alongside her son Wesley, Vice President. As demand for hauling services increased—particularly due to the company’s role as a preferred trucking provider for a vendor connected to the largest investment project in the history of the State of Tennessee—the Broadways recognized the need to expand their fleet. Maintaining their position on the preferred trucking list required the ability to meet and exceed growing hauling requirements, and without additional resources, there was a real risk of losing that standing.

To support this critical expansion, Ms. Kay contacted the Tennessee Small Business Development Center at Jackson State Community College seeking guidance on financing options to purchase four additional dump trucks. TSBDC Center Director Henry Smith met with Ms. Kay to assess the company’s needs and outline available services, with a clear focus on helping the business maintain its preferred-provider status. Through coaching, mentoring, and technical assistance, the TSBDC supported the Broadways in developing a professional business plan, assembling a lender-ready documentation package, and connecting with potential lenders to advance the funding request. Van Wylie, Director of the DSCC Center, also played a key role by providing technical expertise, process knowledge, and encouragement throughout the financing process.

With TSBDC support, Broadway & Sons Trucking successfully secured loans totaling $1.2 million to purchase four additional dump trucks. The expansion increased the company’s fleet beyond its existing 20 trucks and created four new driver positions, strengthening both operational capacity and employment. During a follow-up visit in October, Wesley Broadway shared that the company had added two more trucks since the previous July visit, further underscoring the momentum and continued growth of this family-owned business.
